Our second assignment for the Genetics Project was, sadly, not to create a frankenstein or zombie like creature and scream like a mad scientist ITS ALIVE or RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! We have to create an "imaginary creature". The creature has to have 6 genetic traits in which I have assigned to my penguin named Nemo. (for pictures check him out on the side slideshow!)

2 single allele traits: black beanie cap hair and black furry wings
1 codominant trait: white fur with black speckles
1 multiple allele trait: black big circle eye with white small circle eye in the middle. (Combined)
1 sex linked trait: male with triangle nose
1 incomplete dominant trait: pink cheeks

After figuring out the phenotypes and sketching them, I sketched two possible penguins I would want to create and figured their genotypes to be
for the female:hhZZmmCcx^Tx^tE^RE^R
for the male:HhZzMmCD x^TyE^RW

With one of the single allele traits, I picked black furry wings, I created a sample pedigree that includes 4 generations.
I crossed these alleles ZZ and zz to get 100 percent heterozygous alleles

Then using two single allele traits, I created a dihybrid cross. These traits I crossed were HhZzx x HhZz
The ratios produced were:
Black Beanie Cap and Black Wings= 11:16
Black Beanie Cap and White Wings= 2:16
No Beanie Cap and Black Wings= 2:16
No Beanie Cap and White Wings= 1:16

3 Practice Problems using the traits:

1.) Show a dihybrid cross using the codominant traits created.
2.) Change the genotype for the male if it had a sex change. What would change?
3.) Create your own genotype for a penguin of my species.
